It's on! **Updated!**

The "friendly" competition that is. Last night we welcomed the first wave of Harrison Sturgeon Challenge participants to the Harrison Hot Springs Resort and Spa, got them signed in and logo'ed up (if that's not a word it should be), fed and watered at Islands Bar, and ready for three days of competitive sturgeon fishing.

I honestly think that our guides are feeling a bit more...how do I put it...ruthless? competitive? bent on victory?...than most of the fisherman that I met last night (notice I said most!)

Everyone seems to be here for the fishing and time on the river, the laughs and the experience. For most it seems that the prizes are just the icing on the cake. Maybe they are just holding it all in better than the guides? Either way, it's a great outlook on what is sure be an awesome week.

This morning at 8am, with the clouds starting to break and a hint of blue sky showing through, the airhorn sounded and the Challenge officially began.

I have just been sent, mere moments ago, the first fish photos of the day as well! It's a great start.

I have a feeling that the relaxed amiability of last night will change after our first daily recap tonight, and we will start to see the competition heating up for tomorrow.

UPDATE:

I've gotten a couple more fish pictures this morning, and I'm hearing some mixed fishing reports. It sounds like there have been a few smaller fish caught, I'm still waiting to hear about the Big One.

In the meantime, check out the crazy sharp scutes on this 140cm fish:
