This past Saturday, May 18th, marks one year of working for BC Sportfishing Group, and I can't believe it's gone by so fast!
A lot of people were surprised when I left my "good, stable" job working for a local municipality to come to work for a fishing company, but anyone who knows me realized quickly that it was the right move for me - me included.
I think there is a huge benefit to working somewhere where you are respected and appreciated by your co-workers, you have a boss who is supportive and encouraging, and that you are immersed in something that you love! It's huge reward to me to see all of the smiling faces and tired arms at the end of the day, and to get to pass on so many great kudos to our guides from clients as well. I work with what I honestly believe is the best team of guides in the Fraser Valley/Lower Mainland. Not only are they a great bunch of guys, but damn can they catch fish!
It's been a great year for me, with I hope many more to follow.
Had enough of the sloppy love fest yet? How about a fishing report, and some fish pics for those less sentimental among you :)
The high waters have peaked, according to the BC River Forecast Centre, and the high stream-flow advisory has ended. It was a bit earlier than usual for these conditions, but levels were not nearly so high as last years' freshet! We may get another small bump later in the week as they are calling for rain in the interior, but all said and done (knock on wood) the river should continue to drop from now on.
The toughest part of high water fishing is finding a beach to bring those lovely and large sturgeon to for a great photo op, as most of them are underwater. Oh well, that's why our guides have waders on board!! One group that was fishing on the weekend landed two 6'2" fish, as well as two right around the 7' mark. Below are the second 6'2", and the second of the larger fish which was just shy (by about 2cm) of 7'.
